This brand-new rental in a laid-back surf town on Mexico's Pacific Coast is immersed in the jungle—plus has two pools, ocean views, and a rooftop.
“With its exposed concrete frame, NICO combines elements of local architecture and building techniques with nods to both brutalism and tropical modernism.”
In Nico’s social spaces, material colors were inspired by the Pacific Ocean views. A Guadalajaran fabricator created the custom sky-blue tiles that line the pools. A stucco-clad bathroom off the party deck wears a lightly pink-brown hue. “The feeling we’re looking to convey is informality,” says Humble, who also hired Mexico City studio Trama to create the hospitality brand’s retro-inspired graphic design. “Nothing is precious or pretentious.” In the laid-back beach town of Sayulita, it’s truly of the place.
“The collaboration between HYBIRD and Palma represents the emergence of an exciting new travel experience, where the independence overlaps with convenience. By focusing on a hospitality experience at such a specific, intimate scale, NICO is set to redefine how, and perhaps why, we travel: It offers the best of exploration and natural immersion, yet doesn’t forfeit the tranquility and joy that comes from beautiful and thoughtful design.”
“brutalist NICO hotel celebrates tropical modernism amidst mexican jungle”
“NICO, a micro hospitality experience with elevated suites, open-air common spaces, and boutique hotel-style comforts.“
“Embracing the laid-back atmosphere of bohemian surf town Sayulita located north of Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta, NICO is a unique lodging that plays with varying degrees of privacy and openness. While appearing as a simple two-storey volume from street view, its rear reveals five storeys that literally descend into the jungle, left partially open to the landscape.“
“Conceived as a holiday rental, crafted to welcome guests to this lush corner of the country, the design balances openness and seclusion, flexibility and privacy.“
